Cultivating in the First Person (Special Summer 2024 Episode)

Let me take the liberty of two chapters in one week, because I want to share a special summer episode with you. In this newsletter we talk about the idea of cultivating talent, and I can't think of a better analogy than telling you how our summer party went. Keeping a high work tempo and staying focused on results is crucial, but so is knowing how to have fun and build a real team with your colleagues.

The way I see it, it's all in the details, so the run-up to the party kicked off with a letter I wrote by hand, thanking everyone for their trust and their effort from day one on the project. Some have been with us for more than 15 months, others less, but we're all bound by the same values. Our pillars are:

These pillars hold up our goal, which is single and multiple at the same time: People / People / People (Team / Candidate / Client).

The day kicked off in the best possible way: splitting into teams to crack a riddle at our "international branch." After working the clues hard, we cracked it, which unlocked a reward we enjoyed in a safe casino session (nobody lost their money, just W coins 😊). And of course, that led us to a well-earned party.

Sealed briefcase with a padlock and the England flag, a prop from the team escape game

And of course we couldn't miss what will become the grand gala of the "W Awards" :)

In the morning we were considerate and pushed the activity to 11 a.m., right in the middle of a heat wave. It was a chance to see the teams get creative, building wooden boats and barrels out of next to nothing that, surprisingly, actually floated.

I won't go on much longer, but I do want to thank, once again, the incredible team we're building in Spain (Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Málaga, Barcelona and Bilbao). The best is yet to come. If you're reading this and you want to be part of the team, don't hesitate to reach out. We can't wait to grow our family of exceptional people and seekers of excellence. One of our values is transparency, so don't get carried away just by how much fun we had; balance it against a demanding work dynamic that's there to help you grow professionally. The growth of the whole team is what will make W bigger and bigger, without ever losing its essence of people to the cube 😉.
