Between the Lines of Leadership · A Headhunter's Picks (47)
I've been thinking for a while about why I publish so much. Why I write this newsletter. Why I put myself out there.
It isn't vanity. It isn't a need for attention. I do it, and I keep doing it every week, for one reason: accountability.
I want the people I already work with, and the people I might one day partner with, hire or team up with, to know exactly who I am, what I think, how I lead. And there's no better way to do that than by putting myself out there.
Because the more you expose yourself, the clearer your profile gets. And if that profile is also consistent, not necessarily coherent, since coherence depends on where you're standing, then you build something incredibly valuable: trust.
But it's not just a professional reason. There's a selfish one too: I want to stay employable. Not because I'm looking to jump ship, I hope to stay many more years at W Executive España , but because I deeply believe the best way to build your employability is to do it when you don't need it. And to do it out in the open.
Every time we run an onboarding, like the one we've got next week with the new Ws, who are taking us close to 80 across Spain, I say the same thing: nobody is going to retire at this company. Not even me. And that's not a threat, it's a reality we own without drama. That's why we'd rather see ourselves as a people accelerator, a place to grow as professionals, surrounded by high standards, culture and purpose. Of course we want people to stay a long time. But not out of obligation, out of connection and growth. Because if someone's motivation (mine included) doesn't line up with the project, it's better to build well… and let go even better. With the wish, of course, of many more years together. Not retaining talent, but cultivating it.
And there's a deeper reason too. A more personal one. My purpose is clear:
To live enjoying the journey, guided by my conscience, with the courage to own my destiny.

That sentence isn't an empty slogan. It's a compass. It's how I try to make decisions, build relationships and lead a project like W. And it's exactly that purpose that pushes me to share, to write, to show up. Because if you don't know why you do what you do, it's really hard to lead anything that means something.
At its core, this newsletter is just that: a mirror of how I understand talent. It's not about retaining it, it's about cultivating it. And to cultivate talent you have to be visible, transparent and predictable. Because talent doesn't follow brands, it follows people.
And that same idea of deliberate exposure is where our podcast was born: Ecos de Liderazgo. A space where I get to learn out loud, thanks to conversations with great professionals who've been generous enough to share their experience with no filter. The best part: they don't come to say what's expected, they say what they actually think. And that, on top of helping you grow, forces you to truly put yourself out there as a leader.
